Celebration of birth anniversary of late K. Kamaraj,
former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
On the birth anniversary of Kamraj on 15th July 2023, the Evening School in Rainbow Nagar celebrated the life of this great leader. During the celebration, a student from the evening school delivered a short speech about Kamraj's remarkable contributions.
Kamraj was born on 15th July 1903 in a town called Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, to Kumaraswamy Nadar and Sivagami Ammal. Throughout his life, he actively participated in significant movements such as the Non-Cooperation Movement and Nagpur Flag Satyagraha. In 1954, he assumed the role of Chief Minister of Madras State, which is known as Tamil Nadu today.
One of his most notable initiatives was the introduction of the innovative concept of mid-day meals in schools, providing free meals to children from economically disadvantaged families. Thanks to his efforts, the number of schools in Tamil Nadu increased significantly. Due to his profound impact on education, he is affectionately referred to as 'KalviThanthai,' which translates to 'Father of Education' in Tamil.
Kamraj passed away on 2nd October 1975, at the age of 72, in Chennai.
