Orientation visit of BSW students from Kasthurba college for women, Villianur, Puducherry to Prime Educational and Social Trust
Orientation visits for social work students to non-profit organizations are highly valuable for several reasons: These visits offer students the opportunity to engage in experiential learning. They can see firsthand how non-profit organizations operate, understand their mission, and witness the impact of their work in the community. This practical experience can enhance their understanding of social work concepts and theories learned in the classroom. Visiting non-profit organizations helps students gain a deeper understanding of the social issues they will be addressing as future social workers. They can witness the specific challenges faced by individuals and communities and learn about the various approaches used to address these issues. Orientation visits provide students with the chance to network with professionals in the field. They can meet staff members, volunteers, and clients, allowing them to build relationships that may be beneficial for their future careers. Observing the dedication and passion of individuals working in non-profit organizations can inspire and motivate students. Visiting non-profit organizations encourages critical thinking. Students can assess the strengths and weaknesses of different programs and interventions, helping them develop a more analytical and evidence-based approach to their work. These visits allow students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-life situations. It bridges the gap between theory and practice, helping students connect academic concepts to the practical challenges they will face in their careers.
On 27.09.2023 about 11 BSW II year students with a faculty from the Kasthurba college for women, Villinur visited Prime Educational and social trust for an orientation. Prime Trust conducts general medical camp at Rettanai village – 02.09.2023
Conducting a general medical camp can have several benefits, both for the community and for healthcare providers. Medical camps provide access to healthcare services for individuals who may not have easy access to healthcare facilities due to geographical, financial, or logistical barriers. This helps in reaching underserved populations. Regular medical check-ups at camps can help in the early detection of diseases and conditions. Medical camps often include health education sessions where healthcare providers can educate participants about preventive measures, healthy lifestyles, and disease management. This empowers individuals to take better care of their health.

Let’s make draw string bags!! (Prime Trust works with the Kuravar community at Karikalampakkam to enhance their children’s education) – 26.08.2023
The Kuravar community is a traditionally nomadic tribe in India, known for their unique culture and crafts. One of the traditional crafts they practice is creating handmade drawstring bags. The fabric is cut and the pieces are sewed together to form the body of the bag. This might involve stitching along the sides and bottom. To create the drawstring closure, they would leave an opening at the top of the bag and a separate cord is used. This drawstring could be pulled to secure the bag's contents. The bags might be adorned with beads, shells, or embroidery to add a decorative touch. The bags would be inspected for quality, and any loose threads or imperfections would be addressed. The drawstrings would be secured properly, ensuring the bag is functional.
Cultural Significance: The drawstring bags made by the Kuravar community women are not just functional items but also hold cultural and social significance. They might be used for carrying daily essentials, storing personal items, or even as gifts for special occasions. The intricate patterns and designs on the bags could convey stories, traditions, and symbols unique to the Kuravar community.
Overall, the process of making drawstring bags by the Kuravar community women involves a blend of traditional crafting techniques, natural materials, and cultural expressions that have been passed down through generations.
