Prime Trust, in association with Jothi Eye Care Hospital conducted a free Eye Screening Camp

A free eye screening camp was conducted at the Prime Trust office, Rainbow Nagar for the public by Prime Trust in collaboration with the Jothi Eye Care Hospital on 30th September 2022. Wide publicity was made to the local community about the opportunity. Eye screening was done on children, men and women. For further treatment such as cataract surgery and other ophthalmic issues they were referred to the Jothi Eye Care Hospital. The medical team informed the community about the central government schemes available to the public. The local community was also informed about the special offers from the hospital extended through this camp. People of different ages were benefitted through the camp. Prime Trust helps improves a family with financial crisis through Micro Credit Program.

With the support of LACIM, France, Prime Trust was able to help Mrs. Marie Julia (36 yrs) a graduate of economics of the Akshaya Punnagai Pookal self help group at Muthialpet with Rs. 20,000/- to build a toilet for the tuition center that she takes for the school children. Her husband Mr. Tamil Vendan (41yrs) is a building contractor. Her daughter and son are doing schooling. The Income from the tuition center helps them repay the loan. Leisure time activities at Janani home with the interns

On 24.09.2022 the Janani home children along with the three MSW interns from the MAR AUGUSTHINOSE college Ramapuram , Kerela spent time together in playing indoor games and doing exercises in the morning. In the evening they visited the Pondicherry beach and the park. It was a time of fun for them. An outing encourages the physical as well as mental development of children. Playing outside allows kids to develop more advanced motor skills, it gives better general health, improves muscle strength etc. The children participated with enthusiasm in every activity. They are united and have the feeling of oneness among themselves. Awareness programs on health and hygiene for children

On 24.09.2022 two MSW interns from the MAR AUGUSTHINOSE college Ramapuram , Kerela and Mary Slessor, Program Manager from Prime Trust visited the Rasu udayar thottam and Janani home at Colas Nagar, Puducherry. The awareness videos on health and hygiene were screened for two groups of children - the children at Rasu udayar thottam (16) and the children at Janani home (9). A short talk on personal hygiene was also given to the two groups. It was an interactive session. The children interacted with much interest. The financial assistance helped her family to improve her existing Idli/ dosa batter production in Muthialpet. Her husband Mr. Alumalai is a painter and has 2 sons who are undergoing graduation. The income from the production helps them repay her loan as well support the children for their studies. Group activities for the girls in Janani home by the MSW interns from the MAR AUGUSTHINOSE college Ramapuram , Kerela

On 22nd and 23rd of September 2022 three MSW interns conducted group activities for the 9 girls in Janani home. Musical chair, quiz, recycling ideas – group discussion, dance session, drawing session and exercise session were conducted. The children participated actively with much enjoyment. The children love to do activities in groups. It was an opportunity for the children to bring out their skills, talents and leadership qualities. It was an opportunity for the interns to interact and learn to work with the children, to make every child participate, to apply the World Health Organization basic life skills in the group activities.

On 17.09.2022 the Janani home girls had a welcome party to the newly married couple of Mr. Prabhu and Mrs. Anandhi. Mrs. Anandhi is the elder sister of Miss. Uma who is the Accountant of Janani Home. The couple brought sweets to the children and they enjoyed our children’s dance performance. The financial assistance helped her family to improve her existing cool drink shop in Muthialpet. Her husband Mr. Saravanan goes for fishing and has 2 daughters who are undergoing graduation. Eye checkup for the girls in Janani home

It is found that some children of Janani Home are having difficulty reading clearly the writing on the blackboard in their classes and we have decided on a complete eye check-up. Mr. Sivakumar, Trustee, Prime Trust contacted Dr. Amalaraja, Director of St. Mary’s Eye Clinic, 84, Capitaine Marius Xavier Street, Puducherry-1. He was kind enough to provide all the support needed by the children. Accordingly, the children were taken to his clinic on Friday, the 16 th of September. He found that some children should have spectacles and some needed tonics and some were provided. We thank Dr. Amalaraja, Mr. Sivakumar, Mrs. Mary Slessor and the Interns of MSW from Mar Augusthinose College, Ramapuram, Kerala.

Many of these children do not have the funds necessary to have tuition classes outside of their regular school hours. This evening school will provide a structured learning period for small groups of children, assisted by permanent staff and international volunteers. The children need a school van for a safe to go to their schools. We are running Four Evening Remedial Schools for the children of deprived Dalit, tribal, and fishing communities. The Home for the Abandoned Girl children supports 15 children by providing food, accommodation, education, health care, and vocational skills. The health awareness programs and health checkup camps are conducted for dental and ophthalmic issues. Our Vocational Tailoring Center offers job opportunities to women to earn a decent wage.     And this is where we need your help.
