On 29th August 2025, the children of Janani Home joined the rest of the nation in celebrating National Sports Day, a day observed every year to honour Major Dhyan Chand, the wizard of hockey and one of India’s greatest sporting legends. For us, this occasion was not only a tribute to a sporting hero but also a reminder of the values that sports and fitness bring into our lives — discipline, respect, teamwork, and resilience. The day unfolded like a festival of joy, energy, and learning, leaving behind moments that will be cherished by everyone who participated.
The celebrations began in the morning when all the girls came together to take the Fit India Pledge. In one voice, they promised to stay active, strong, and balanced in body, mind, and spirit. The pledge set the tone for the day, filling the air with determination and a sense of unity. Soon after, the grounds and hall turned peaceful as everyone settled into a yoga session. The girls followed simple breathing practices and stretches, and in those quiet moments of balance and calmness, it was as if they were preparing their minds and bodies not only for the games of the day but also for the bigger challenges of life.
The energy began to rise when the indoor games were introduced. The chess boards were quickly surrounded by eager players, each move on the board reflecting careful thought and strategy. Carrom boards sparked cheer and laughter as the girls competed with friendly banter, celebrating every pocketed coin with excitement. Skipping ropes swung in rhythm, turning into a joyful competition where every jump was cheered on by peers. These indoor activities reminded us that games are not merely pastimes but also teachers of patience, focus, and perseverance.
As the day grew livelier, the children moved outside for the most anticipated activity of the celebration — Kho-Kho. The playground turned into a lively space filled with cheers, laughter, and endless running. The girls displayed speed, agility, and quick thinking as they chased and dodged one another. What stood out the most was not the competition, but the spirit of teamwork. The excitement of participation was far greater than the idea of winning or losing, and the joy on their faces showed how much the game meant to them. In every sprint and every shout of encouragement, the essence of sports came alive in its purest form.
Towards the end of the day, the girls gathered once more, this time for a health talk that tied the celebration together. They listened with curiosity as they learned about the importance of keeping fit through daily exercise, maintaining a balanced diet, and taking care of mental health. The session was not just about physical fitness but also about understanding that sports and well-being are ways of life. It was a reminder that taking care of oneself is as important as education, and that health is the foundation on which every dream is built.
By the close of the day, the atmosphere at Janani Home was filled with warmth and satisfaction. The celebration had given the girls more than just games to play — it had given them lessons in confidence, friendship, and the strength of community. The smiles and laughter that echoed long after the activities ended were proof that the day had touched their hearts. National Sports Day at Janani Home became a celebration of life itself, reminding us that every child deserves the joy of play and the chance to learn through sports.
This year’s theme, “Har Gali, Har Maidan, Khele Saara Hindustaan — Khele Bhi, Khile Bhi,” truly found meaning in our home. The children showed us that sports are not about medals or trophies alone, but about spirit, participation, and growth. Every game they played carried with it the values of discipline, respect, and friendship, and every smile carried the hope of a brighter, stronger future. At Janani Home, we believe that such moments help shape not just healthier children but also more confident individuals who will step into the world with courage and joy. National Sports Day 2025 was, for us, a day of celebration, inspiration, and the simple yet powerful truth that play is the language of childhood and the foundation of lifelong well-being.
