Experience with Prime Trust - Ms. Krishnapriya, MSW intern from the Central university of Kerela

Experience with Prime Trust - Ms. Krishnapriya, MSW intern from the Central university of Kerela

It was a great opportunity for me to do my internship with Prime trust.  I enjoyed handling the craft session for the children in the summer camp. This is my first experience in handling craft session and I feel very happy about that. The children participated very actively in the craft classes. It was a pleasure to participate and mobilize people for the community program – free dental camp. The fund raising activity was a new and different experience for me with new people to interact. Interaction with the Self help group members was a good experience for me. Working with the DIY tools was a new experience and I was able to learn new ways of thinking.

Overall my internship period was a time of learning and experimentation for me.  I thank the Prime Trust founder Mr. SM Arasu for giving me the opportunity to do my internship with Prime Trust.

Sunday is Sports Day

The girls at Janani Home work hard at school and focus well on their studies, but we recognise that physical activity is also vital for their health. Every Sunday the girls will have time to play sports, they have already shown much skill and ability. We are sure that they will progress quickly and adopt such extracurricular activities. We thank Sabari School for facilitating the play materials. Our Founder and Director, Arasu, very much enjoyed spending time with the girls and teaching them how to play football. We look forward to our next opportunity for fun in the sun.

A Warm Welcome to the New Members of our Board of Directors

Two new members have recently been appointed to our board of directors, Ragu and Sally. Ragu is our project manager from Tamil Nadu, and Sally is a volunteer from Great Britain. They will now be involved in the management and decision-making of the organisation, and as a team, they will help Prime Trust to develop and excel. The membership was officially declared at a ceremony of honour, located in the office of Prime Trust. Members from our board of trustees also attended. After some lovely, welcoming speeches, Ragu and Sally were presented with flowers and a shawl of honour.

We are very excited to move forward from this point with our new members, and excitedly await the changes to come.

International Day of the Girl Child

What is the Celebration For?

International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually on October 11th, highlighting the and drawing attention towards challenges that girls around the world face. Promotion of girl's empowerment is also important on this day, as well as the fulfilment of their human rights. It has been celebrated since 2012, launched by the UN general assembly. Specific issues focused on include: equality, child marriage, education, gender-based violence and more.
This year's theme for International Day of the Girl Child is "GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable". What if we replaced "GirlForce" with "Life"? Does this also work? It is important to note that life implies no gender and no gender restrictions. Girls and boys, like life, are "Unscripted and Unstoppable". This chosen theme successfully accentuates the equality of gender which exists, and the strength that both genders possess, which is often ignored or overlooked.

Celebrating at Prime Trust

Organised by our project manager, Ragu, the children from our Evening Tuition classes and Janani Home attended an invaluable awareness celebration. Speeches were made by Ragu, as well as two guest speakers from our local university. After these fantastic, informative an educational speeches, some of the girls also shared their thoughts on the topic, and showed their appreciation to Prime Trust for the opportunities that they have been given in life.

It could be said that every day at Prime Trust is a Day of the Girl Child. Everyday our organisation recognises the help that is required, and seeks to present opportunities to those in need. Janani Home for Girls is a model example of how we can attempt to achieve gender equality across the world. It is also on days such as this that we would like to stop and thank those providing our organisation with child sponsorships. This support has an invaluable impact, and it is heart-warming to know that there are many more people in the world who believe in this tremendous cause; people who recognise the importance of an education, a safe home, good healthcare and a supportive family for girls.

Exams are Finished... Let's Dance!

The girls at Janani Home have been working hard every morning and evening, revising for their exams. The support that they have for one another is fantastic to see, and it paid off! There may have been a few grumbles here and there, but they are all proud of themselves and each other. The staff at Prime Trust and our sponsors are especially proud, and treated the girls to a cinema trip for all of their hard work.

The girls have regained their energy, and are in high spirits during their holiday week. Some of our generous sponsors brought round a noodle feast for the girls. But before food... a party! The girls were bursting with energy (even hyper in some cases) and brought a smile to everyone's face with their wonderful dancing. Any chance to play their favourite tunes and have a boogie, they will take it.
